Sai was raised in a family and educational environment where science and mathematics were emphasized from an early age. As an Indian-American woman, she was influenced by both her upbringing in the United States and her connection to a culture where expectations for women can differ significantly.
Math became a subject that Sai genuinely loved. Funny enough, it was not always easy. She struggled with math early on and taught herself many of the concepts that eventually became second nature. That experience shaped the way she approaches tutoring today—she knows firsthand that struggling with a subject does not mean you are incapable of succeeding in it. Sai’s passion for math eventually led her to formally tutor K–12 students and provide support with SAT/ACT preparation.
As a woman of color, Sai understands the importance of representation and how cultural expectations can also shape the paths women envision for themselves. Her own female mentors, including professors she had while completing her master’s degree, encouraged her to push herself academically and professionally and helped her see possibilities she may not have considered on her own. Because of this, Sai especially values the opportunity to mentor girls who remind her of her younger self. She strives to help them build the confidence to pursue subjects and careers they are passionate about, even when entering fields where women may be underrepresented.
Sai recently completed her M.S. in Microbiology & Immunology at Tulane University School of Medicine and is pursuing a career in medicine. She is honored to be part of an initiative that is dedicated to empowering the next generation of young women and helping them build the future they dream of.
Let’s talk about her goals.
